Parents/Guardians: WA offers upperclassmen the opportunity to participate in the Early College Program through the UMaine System. Many of our students graduate with 15-18 credits when graduating from WA! If you are interested for your child to participate in this program, contact our Guidance Department.

For Parents...Here are some highlights:
|
|
- Login to MaineStreet, Gmail, and Brightspace: Students at Washington Academy taking Early College/AP Courses should login to their portals to view their fall courses. Don't be alarmed if the student does not see their courses listed on the first day of class. If a student does NOT see it by the third day, please contact Mrs. Morris or Mrs. Porter for assistance.
- Purchase textbooks: It is recommended that textbooks be purchased by the course start date if possible. Textbook information can be accessed through the University's bookstore by using the course number or from the course syllabus. If purchasing textbooks creates a financial hardship for the student, please contact the Guidance Office to see if your student qualifies for a textbook scholarship. It is encouraged that students rent their textbooks from the university or through Amazon. This is a much cheaper option. WA does not provide textbooks for EC online courses nor is the school responsible for making sure rented books get returned at the end of the semester. This is the responsibility of the student. Students taking AP courses will be provided with a textbook through the AP program.
- Watch Brightspace & Mainestreet Tutorials: Student taking EC courses should view the Brightspace video tutorials prior to the start of EC courses. The UMaine system will no longer be using Blackboard to deliver courses.
- Questions: If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Morris or Mrs. Porter for assistance, but we expect STUDENTS to do their part first. . . please watch the video tutorials! Students will participate in a EC orientation during WA's first week of school but this will be after the start of the online course. A copy of what will be covered during orientation is available on this website under the "student" drop-down menu. Please review your student's Early College Google Classroom for updates.
Order Textbooks
Textbooks both new and used may be purchased through Amazon; however, be very careful when ordering e-textbooks or any used materials that require a code. Materials requiring a code, often can only be used once. Also, make sure your are ordering the correct edition of the textbook. To save money on textbooks, you may be able to purchase a textbook from a student who took the course last year or you may rent your textbook. If possible, it is the responsibility of the student to make sure that books are purchased before the start of the college course. If this proves to be a financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Morris, Mr. Strand, or Mrs. Gautier to see if you may qualify for a textbook scholarship. Do not drag your feet in purchasing textbooks. Most professors expect you to have your textbooks on the first day of class.
Any books that are rented must be returned by the end of the semester to Amazon by the due date. WA is not responsible for the purchase or return of textbooks nor does the WA school library provide books for online courses. If you have any concerns regarding the purchase of textbooks, please contact Mrs. Morris, Mr. Strand, or Mrs. Porter.
